Finding Your Perfect Fit: Your Guide to Period Underwear

Scarlet Period Blog | How to measure your underwear size

Finding the right size is like deciding which ice cream flavour to order. You might be tempted to try a bunch: first peanut butter, then pistachio, maybe even mango. But when it comes to period gear, our size guides help you nail your order on the first go. No sampling—or stacks of tiny spoons—is required.

Know Your Flow

Understanding your menstrual flow is the first step in finding the perfect period underwear. Are your periods light, moderate, or heavy? This information will help you determine the level of absorbency you need.

Consider Your Body Type

Body shape can affect how period underwear fits and feels. Some prefer a higher-rise waistband for extra coverage and support, while others opt for a lower rise for a more minimalistic feel.

Material Matters

The material your knickers are made from is crucial for comfort and functionality. All Scarlet underwear is made from breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics that are gentle on the skin. Our core range uses GOTS-certified organic cotton. The high-waisted pants use soft modal cotton (which has more stretch than organic cotton), while the thong pants use lightweight polyamide. All fabrics are free from chemical treatments, including PFAS (independently lab tested).

Measure Up for the Perfect Fit

Just like with any other clothing item, sizing matters. Ill-fitting period underwear can lead to discomfort and leaks. Here’s how to find your perfect fit:

  • Stand up straight, relax your stomach muscles, and locate the narrowest part of your waist. This is typically just above your belly button. Take the measuring tape and wrap it around your waist, ensuring it's snug but not tight.
  • Locate the fullest part of your hips, usually around the hip bones. Wrap the measuring tape around this area, ensuring it's parallel to the ground and not too tight or loose.
  • Remember that period underwear uses firmer elastic materials to provide a secure fit (no one wants leaks, after all!). If you are between sizes, it’s safest to go the bigger to allow bloating.
  • If you're still uncertain about finding the perfect size, don't hesitate to contact support@scarletperiod.com. We’d be happy to help.
