Whether you're new to endo or have been in the game for a while, Scarlet CEO Jo shares her go-to tips for handling flare-ups and advocating for your health.
Living with endometriosis can feel like wandering a maze without a map. But arming yourself with the right tools can help you take back control. Here are some tricks I’ve picked up along the way, whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned pro.
Make A Personal Pain Management Plan
Endometriosis can be unpredictable, but a solid pain management routine can bring some much-needed stability. Think hot baths, TENS devices (C) Vush Aura), and mindful moments during flare-ups. Chat with your doctor about having the right meds - whether over-the-counter or prescription - on standby.
Track What Works
I keep a diary of my symptoms and treatments, noting what works and what doesn’t during flare-ups. (how cute is D) Papier's Notebook?!) This habit helps me feel more in control and is a lifesaver at the doctor’s office. The more detailed your notes on your cycle and symptoms, the easier it is to advocate for your needs.
Plan for Flare-Ups
Flare-ups are part of the deal, but keeping your schedule flexible can help you navigate them. Let your employer know about your condition; they might offer flexible working arrangements or sick days without needing to explain yourself every time. A ‘flare-up kit’ stocked with essentials like pain relievers, heating pads, and comfy clothes is also a must-have, so you’re always ready when a rough day hits.

Turn To Heat and Magnesium
Heat packs are my holy grail for those pesky cramps - hence why I created the rae heat pad! Pairing that with magnesium supplements has been a game changer. Magnesium is a superstar for relaxing muscles and easing inflammation, making it a natural ally for period discomfort. I take a supplement daily and indulge in our magnesium-packed Soothing Sud Bubble Bath and Magnesium+ Spray.
Find Your Community
Dealing with pain can feel lonely, but joining support groups - whether online or in-person - can be a game changer. I’ve learned more from fellow endo warriors than from any doctor. They share practical tips, new treatment ideas, and emotional support when the going gets tough. These communities remind you that you’re not alone in this journey.
Stay Informed
The world of endometriosis research is always evolving, with fresh treatments and management strategies popping up. Keep yourself in the loop by following the latest studies, and don’t hesitate to speak up in the doctor’s office. You know your body best, so if something feels off, push for more tests, second opinions, or referrals to specialists. The more you know, the more you can steer your healthcare journey.
