With social feeds overflowing with the latest self-care fads, it’s hard to know what’s worth trying. From yoni steams to ear seeds, these trends claim to help with period relief - but do they live up to the hype?
Yoni Steams?
Yoni steaming isn’t just a trendy buzzword; it’s an ancient ritual that’s been around for centuries. The idea? Sit over a pot of herbal steam - think calendula, rosemary, and chamomile - to ease cramps, balance your cycle, and even boost fertility.
But before you get too steamy, proceed with caution. Too much heat can cause burns or irritation, and not all herbs are friendly to sensitive skin. The research is also very mixed. Still curious? We recommend you chat with your doctor first and take it slow.
Castor Oil?
Castor oil packs are the retro secret people are dipping into again. Soak a cotton cloth in organic castor oil, place it on your tummy, and add some heat. Fans say it helps with cramps and boosts circulation.
Is it proven? No. Is it a nice moment to indulge in self-care. Of course. To get the most out of it, lie back, relax, and leave the pack on for 20-30 minutes. But heads up: castor oil can sometimes irritate skin, and too much of it can have a laxative effect. It also can leave an oil-like stain on fabric - we learnt the hard way and our couch has never been the same.
Ear Seeds?
Ear seeds are the chic, needle-free way to dip into acupressure. Small seeds or beads are placed on specific points in your ear, which are believed to connect to different parts of the body. People say they help with stress and pain. Plus, they double as cute accessories while giving you a gentle reminder to press them throughout the day for relief. We especially love Elle Halliwell's Auricle range.
While there’s still research to be done on their full benefits, they definitely bring a stylish touch to your wellness routine.
