My Go-To Endo Post-Op Tips - Love Jo

rae Heat Device is great for endo cramps and post surgery pain

Right, let’s chat about post-surgery recovery. After 7+ laparoscopies (plus a few other fun adventures), navigating recovery has been quite the journey. But knowledge is power, so here are my top tips to help you through your post-op experience:

Comfy clothes are key: Say goodbye to those tiny undies and tight waistbands, friends. Grab some sized-up period underwear (trust me, it’s a lifesaver) and cosy sleepshirts that are easy to slip on - while still giving your belly some love - without irritating your incisions.

Hydration is your BFF: Staying hydrated is everything, especially post-surgery. Keep sipping water throughout the day to help with digestion and recovery.

Tummy troubles? You're not alone! We’ve all heard that dreaded, “You have to poo before you can go home.” Ugh! And the days that follow? Not fun. Daily stool softeners and probiotics are your new best friends to keep things moving smoothly. Herbal de-gas teas (or even plain peppermint) can also work wonders.

Pain management matters: Don’t play the hero! Listen to your body and stick to your pain medication as your doc prescribes. Once pain kicks in, it’s way harder to get back to feeling good, so keep things comfy. It’s temporary, and you deserve it.

Pack those essentials: Stock your bedside table with throat lozenges (that breathing tube can be a real pain) and anti-nausea meds, just in case. I always lose my appetite post-surgery, so I go for light soups and protein smoothies, plus some of mum’s comfort meals (prepped and ready in the fridge).

Movement is key: While you definitely need your rest, light walking and gentle movement are important to keep complications at bay. Even if it’s just a stroll around the block, starting to build your strength is key. Plus, a little fresh air does wonders for the soul–you might even spot your neighbour’s new puppy.

Self-care is key: Now’s the time to call on your troops! I recruit my BF for daily massages and moisturising sessions (dry, itchy skin, anyone?). Then there's my rae Heat Pad to the left and my dogs to the right. Whatever soothes you and makes you comfy is what you need right now. Embrace the cosy vibes, binge-watch your favourite shows, and allow yourself to recover at your own pace.
