Your Questions, Answered

How do they both work?

Scarlet Period Underwear is designed to fit like normal underwear and features built-in leak-proof technology that wicks away moisture and absorbs and contains fluid to keep you dry and protected.

Period Cups are worn internally like a tampon but collect, rather than absorb, your menstrual flow. They can be safely worn for up to 8 hours before emptying and can be used again and again.

How do I pick the right size for me?

We get it, sizing for bottoms is anything but standardised. Which is why this size guide will help break it down for you. Make sure to check both our numeric and letter sizing so no confusion (ie. our large is a 12).

When in doubt, feedback tells us better to size up. Still confused? You can also email us for help at support@scarletperiod.com.

How do I clean my Period Cup?

We offer two easy cleaning methods so you can pick and choose what’s right for you. Either wash in warm water and our Cup & Hand Wash or place face down in its Steriliser Case and microwave with 5ml of water for 1 minute. Allow to cool before touching.

We recommend storing your Cup in the Steriliser Case when not in use or on the go to keep it clean and protected.

What does the absorbency level mean?

Super Light: Holds up to 1 teaspoon, which is equal to less than one regular tampon. Think of it as a new-age panty liner, so it’s great for spotting, light leaks and discharge. Try: Invisible Thong

Light: Holds up to 3 teaspoons, which is equal to 2 regular tampons or one pad. This is for light days to save you from pesky drips, discharge, and lighter flows. Try: G-String or Bikini Brief in Light-Moderate

Moderate: Holds up to 5 teaspoons, which is equal to 3 regular tampons or 2 pads. Go for this on moderate days or as extra defence on heavy days with our Period Cup. Try: High-Waisted Brief or Bikini Brief in Moderate-Heavy

Heavy: Holds up to 7 teaspoons, which is equal to 4 regular tampons or 3 pads. Our heavy hitters are great to wear on their own, day or night. Try: Boyshort or Period Cup

Are Period Cups safe?

Our Period Cup is made with 100% medical-grade silicone and is free from Plastic, BPA, Rubber and Latex. As you insert it internally, always ensure you have clean hands (and, of course, start with a clean Cup!).

Remember always to read the label and follow the instructions included.

IMPORTANT: Menstrual cups have been associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). TSS is a rare but serious disease that may cause death. Read and keep the provided instructions and information for reference.

Can it get lost?

Your Scarlet Period Cup CANNOT GET LOST. Sometimes the cup can move higher in the vagina, but don’t panic. Try using your pelvic muscles to push down to lower it. The force and skill of gravity will bring it down. Gotta love science.
