Breaststroke? Freestyle? Doggy paddle? There are different strokes for different folks, but the Scarlet Period Your Brief + Swim BFFs has everything you need to lap with confidence.
Included in this set (which saves you $10!) is our Period Swim Bikini Brief. Not only does it give you 2 teaspoons of protection (which is roughly equal to up to 1 regular tampon), but it also matches seamlessly with the tops already in your bikini drawer.
Post-swim, simply pop them in our waterproof Toiletry Bag and swap them into the Bikini Brief for hours of leak-proof protection. Made with breathable, buttery-soft organic cotton and PFAS-free, it's period underwear that feels like you're wearing, well, regular underwear.
Period Swim Bikini Brief, Period Bikini Brief and Toiletry Bag.
Machine washable and reusable, our Period Underwear is an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to disposable pads and tampons.
After use, rinse in cold water until it runs clear. Machine wash cold with mild detergent; do not use bleach or fabric softener. Line dry or tumble dry on low.
Did you know more than 12 *billion* pads and 7 *billion* tampons are thrown out every year. The average person with a period uses 11,000 pads, tampons and panty liners in their lifetime. By switching to Scarlet, you're supporting a period and planet positive future.

Bought for my 12 YO so she has when it's needed.
I now actually prefer them over my regular swim bottoms because they're SO comfortable! This is a magic product and now, I don't have to miss out on beach days while on my period.

Your questions, answered
HOW DO THEY WORK?
Scarlet Period Swim and Underwear both feature multi-layered built-in leak-proof technology that absorbs and contains fluid. Our swimwear also has an added waterproof inner layer that stops any menstrual fluid from leaking out and water from getting in.

WHAT DOES THE ABSORBENCY LEVELS MEAN?
When it comes to our periods, every flow is different - heck, every day is different. That's why we have a range of absorbency levels to suit. Use this as a guide to get the right fit for your flow so you'll never stress about leaking on the train again.
Super Light: Holds up to 1 teaspoon, just slightly less than 1 regular tampon. Think of it as a new-age panty liner, so it’s great for spotting as well as light leaks and discharge. Try: Invisible Thong
Light: Holds up to 3 teaspoons, which is equal to 2 regular tampons or 1 pad. This is for light days to save you from pesky drips, discharge, and lighter flows. Try: G-String, Bikini Brief in Level 1 or Swim range
Moderate: Holds up to 5 teaspoons, which is equal to 3 regular tampons or 2 pads. Go for this on your moderate dates, or as extra defence on heavy days with our Period Cup. Try: High-Waisted Brief or Bikini Brief in Level 2
Heavy: Holds up to 7 teaspoons, which is around 4 regular tampons or 3 pads. Our heavy hitter makes them great for full-flow days and overnight. Try: Boyshort or Period Cup
DO I NEED TO WEAR A CUP, TAMPON OR LINER TOO?
Depending on the heaviness of your flow, you can wear on their own or as backup protection with a Period Cup on moderate to heavy days.
If you plan on swimming, we recommend travelling with a water-resistant travel bag, such as our Toiletry Bag, along with your clean pair so you can easily and cleanly do a switcheroo.
If you are feeling Cup curious, you can click to learn more about how Period Cups work. They’re really not as scary as you think!
DO I HAVE TO WASH THEM ASAP AFTER USE?
Some people like to rinse their underwear in the shower before throwing it into a Laundry Bag for wash day, while others don’t. Rinsing your underwear in the shower won’t affect its lifespan. When it comes to swimwear, it’s always best to give it a good rinse to remove any chlorine or salt water before stashing it in a water-resistant travel bag such as our Toiletry Bag until you get home.
Then, once you are ready, simply toss them in on a cold wash cycle with mild detergent (no bleach!). DW, your other clothes will be just fine! For drying, you have two options: tumble dry on low or hang them out to dry in the sun.
TIP: if it’s your first wear, pop them in the washing machine with your next cold cycle - washing them before wearing activates their absorbency even more.
HOW DO I STORE THEM POST-SWIM?
We recommend travelling with a water-resistant travel bag, such as our Toiletry Bag, along with your clean pair so you can easily and cleanly do a switcheroo.
HOW DO I PICK THE RIGHT SIZE FOR ME?
We get it — sizing for bottoms is anything but standardised. Which is why this size guide will help break it down for you. For extra ass-urance, make sure to whip out your trusty measuring tape. (Most likely stashed at the bottom of your junk drawer.)
Please make sure to check both our numeric and letter sizes so there is no confusion (e.g., our large is a 12). When in doubt, we advise you to size up.
