Your questions, answered

What is The Scarlet Period Cup?

It is a reusable period cup made of 100% soft medical grade silicone that is worn internally like a tampon, but collects, rather than absorbs, your menstrual flow.

As it has more than 2.5x the capacity of a regular tampon, you can safely wear it for up to 8 hours before emptying. The Scarlet Period Cup is designed for ultimate comfort. Once your cup is in place, you shouldn't feel a thing.

What size Cup should I get?

Size 1 (regular) is ideal for people who have not given birth, or experience lighter to medium flows. Holds 5 teaspoons (or up to 2.5 regular tampons).

Size 2 (large) is great for people who have given birth or have a heavier flow. Holds 6.5 teaspoons (or up to 4 regular tampons).

How do I clean my Cup?

We offer three easy cleaning methods so you can pick and choose what’s right for you:

👉 Wash in warm water and our Cup & Hand Wash.

👉 Wipe with an On-The-Go Cleansing Wipe.

👉 Place face down in it's Steriliser Case and microwave with 5ml of water for 1 minute. Allow to cool before touching.

We recommend storing your Cup in the Steriliser Case when not in use or when you’re on-the-go to keep it clean and protected.

Just a heads up, the Scarlet On-The-Go Cleansing Wipes are intended for cleaning the Period Cup only, and not designed for use on intimate areas. But don't stress, we’ve also created a body wash with the finest ingredients to cleanse and hydrate the body and vulva.

Oh, and if you are confused whether you should be cleansing down south, we explain the best way to clean your vagina.

Are your Wipes flushable?

Nope, always dispose of in the bin (and just to put it out there... even when a brand 'claims' to be flushable, we'd still advise to bin it!). These are biodegradable though so pop in your compost!

Can the Cup get lost?

Your Scarlet Period Cup CANNOT GET LOST. Sometimes the cup can move higher in the vagina, but don’t panic. Try using your pelvic muscles to push down to lower it. The force and skill of gravity will bring it down. Gotta love science.

Disclaimer: Toxic Shock Syndrome

Menstrual cups have been associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). TSS is a rare, but very serious, illness that can cause death. It’s caused by the release of poisonous substances from an overgrowth of bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus, which is found in many women’s bodies. Toxic Shock Syndrome affects menstruating women, especially those who use super-absorbent tampons. TSS is rarely associated with the use of menstrual cups, but still occurs.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF TSS? Symptoms can be similar to the flu, such as high fever, chills, headache or muscular pains. You may also experience dizziness, vomiting, diarrhoea, fainting, weakness or confusion. If ANY of these symptoms occur CONTACT AN EMERGENCY DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. To learn more information about TSS, visit toxicshock.org.au
